Who are DSAA and what do they do?

The Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance Trust is a registered charity providing a unique emergency service to the towns and local communities throughout the two counties, including Bath and North East Somerset.

Since it was brought into service in March 2000 our helicopter (recently upgraded to a Eurocopter EC135) has flown over 5000 missions, many of them life-saving. It responds mostly to emergency calls such as sporting and road traffic accidents due to the remote locations and kinds of injuries sustained. On average it receives 3 or 4 calls a day and is deployed by the ambulance service. The helicopter is crewed by a pilot and two paramedics and is capable of carrying two stretcher patients plus a third seated passenger. Our paramedics can be flown anywhere in the two counties within 19 minutes of receiving an emergency call. A key element of the Air Ambulance is that it can take patients direct to an appropriate specialist hospital that will meet their needs.
