Thanks to a much-awaited break in the weather, the Sherborne Pinks were able to play their first match in 2008, in which they were triumphant, beating Bournemouth with an impressive 32-7 score line.
The newly-formed Sherborne team for girls was also presented with a £1,000 cheque from Dyne Drewett, by the firm’s managing partner David Morgan.
This sponsorship has provided the Sherborne Pinks with the financial backing needed to apply for a 'Sports Match' grant, which has supplied the squads with their new sponsored kit and much-needed funding for the next two years.
The ethos of the girls' teams is to develop their skills as rugby players as well as encouraging team spirit, self-confidence, and greater appreciation for the game. This support and enthusiasm has already resulted in three players being selected for the Dorset & Wilts U18 squad - Hannah McWilliams, Lauren Peacocke and Perrie-Lee Griffiths.
Sherborne RFC was established in 1980 and is renowned as a friendly and hospitable club, its emphasis is on enjoyment, involvement and good sportsmanship, which is particularly reflected in the youngest teams.
