Congratulations to all 231 competitors who took part in the 2008 Sherborne Castles 10km run, which went ahead despite heavy overnight rain that left the course nice and muddy!

James Brown of the Met Police Running Club led the front runners around the Castle estate to win in an excellent time of 35m06. There was also a popular win in the Male Veteran 60+ category for local legend Andy Goodman, in Dorset Doddlers’ colours, who crossed the line in 52m21. In the Ladies race, Elizabeth Hutson won with a time of 42m08.

In the accompanying 2km fun run, there was a spectacular win for Mendip AC’s Rebecca Carver, who sprinted round a shortened lap in a time of 5m50, holding off the challenge of the boys, with Joshua Hall second in 6m06 and Anthony Wheeler (6m07).

The annual race is organised by the Yeovil Town Road Running Club and the Club was well represented on the day, with Paul Levick finishing in an excellent third place and time of 36m42 in a race to the line with Noel Murphy (36m49). Much of the credit for the race going ahead is awarded to Castle Events Manager Ian Pollard, who also ran and finished in an impressive 8th position (38m26), just behind leading Male Veteran Peter Damon (38m06) but ahead of first Junior Male, Mendip AC’s Tim Attwell (38m47).

The race was sponsored by Dyne Drewett, represented by partner Nick Foster, who runs for Wells City Harriers and finished in 49m45, ahead of colleagues (and Yeovil Town Road Runners) Tom Lenon, who recorded a time of 53m28 and Amanda Inch, whose local knowledge of the course helped her to 1hr01m47. Fellow Dyne Drewett partner Rory McFarlane presented trophies to the winners of each category.

All proceeds from the race will be distributed by the Rotary Club to local Sherborne charities. The next race held by Yeovil Town Running Club will take place on Easter Monday - the Easter Bunny 10km, a flat road race starting at Nuffield Pavilion, RNAS Yeovilton at 11am, with a course that takes runners through West Camel and Podimore – with the added incentive of an Easter Egg for all finishers!
